Naut'sa mawt Tribal Council is pleased to spotlight two of our youth from the Youth Advisory Council, Kayla Peters, Tla'amin Nation, and Emily White, Klahoose First Nation and Tla'amin Nation.

Youth Profile: Tla'amin Nation's Kayla Peters

My name is Kayla Peters. I am Coast Salish from the Tla’amin Nation, located on the Sunshine Coast of BC. However, I grew up in the greater Vancouver area most of my life. I hold a BA in Child & Youth care work. I have also invested my time studying acting and received my diploma in theatre. I currently work for the Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows School district.

Youth Profile: Klahoose First Nation's Emily White

Hello, my name is Emily White, and I use She/Her pronouns. I am from Klahoose and Tla’amin Nations and currently reside in Tla’amin Territory. I hold a degree from the University of Victoria in Indigenous Studies and Applied Ethics. For work, I am a Councillor for Klahoose First Nation, and I am an ʔayʔaǰuθəm Language Learner and Research Assistant. I am very excited to be a part of the Naut'sa mawt Youth Advisory Council, and I look forward to making connections and learning from all of those who are willing to share. čɛčɛhatənapɛč.

Tla'amin Nation's Elder Care Facility Breaks Ground

It was grey and rainy out, but you could not wipe the bright smiles off the community members' faces in Tla'amin Nation this morning!

Today marks the beginning of Phase 1 of a dream conceived well over two years ago by Tla'amin Nation to be able to have a local care facility in the community. This will be a 24-unit housing block that will provide dignified, affordable, and accessible housing for their Elders and community members with special needs. Tla'amin Nation was awarded $8.8 million in funding by the Rapid Housing Initiative through CMHC in addition to funding from the Tla'amin government to be able to make this dream a reality.

Klahoose Wilderness Resort Awarded First Nation Clean Energy Business Fund Grant

Naut'sa mawt Tribal Council is thrilled to congratulate Klahoose Wilderness Resort on soon becoming a 100 percent clean energy eco resort thanks to a grant from the First Nation Energy Business Fund. This will allow them to redesign and improve their water intake, pelton wheel (hydro-wheel), and storage capacity at the resort and draw power from the nearby creek. The project is scheduled to start soon and should be ready by next tourism season.

The resort is 100% owned by Klahoose First Nation.
