Naut’sa mawt Tribal Council Joins WITS for National Pink Shirt Day Broadcast

Naut’sa mawt Tribal Council was honoured to take part in the national Pink Shirt Day Canada Live broadcast by WITS on February 26 in Victoria, BC. This annual event promotes kindness, inclusion, and standing up against bullying—values that align closely with NmTC’s commitment to supporting Indigenous youth and communities.

A Day of Inspiration and Empowerment

The broadcast, hosted by Maya Kara and WITSUp the Walrus, showcased an inspiring lineup of guests who are making meaningful contributions to education, advocacy, and social change.

Among them was Peter H. Reynolds, the internationally acclaimed author and illustrator known for encouraging creativity and self-expression; Willie Poll, a dedicated advocate for Indigenous youth and cultural storytelling; and Pamphinette Buisa, a Canadian Olympian and champion for equity and inclusion.

Their powerful messages of resilience, creativity, and kindness left a lasting impact on audiences across the country.

Celebrating Kadence: 2025 Pink Shirt Day Artist

A highlight of the event was the participation of Kadence Lánahmats George, the talented young Indigenous artist whose design was selected for the 2025 Pink Shirt Day campaign. Kadence, who is from Səlilwətaɬ(Tsleil-Waututh Nation), attended alongside her grandmother, Claudette.

Kadence shared the inspiration behind her powerful design, which features Kilila (butterflies) as a symbol of transformation, unity, and collective strength. Her artwork embodies the spirit of Nəçəmat (One Heart, One Mind), a principle that reinforces the importance of togetherness in the fight against bullying.

Pink Shirt Day is a reminder that small acts of kindness can have a lasting impact. We are committed to fostering inclusive spaces where Indigenous youth feel safe, heard, and empowered.
